INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS

The Virginia Law & Business Review publishes in April and November. We welcome submissions in the form of articles, essays, comments, and book reviews from judges, professors, practitioners, and law clerks on a rolling basis. We do not, however, consider work by current law students (though University of Virginia law students can submit Notes).

LENGTH

We strongly prefer articles under 20,000 words, including footnotes. Manuscripts under 10,000 words including footnotes are usually reviewed as essays or comments. We strongly prefer book reviews under 5,000 words including footnotes.

FORMAT

Manuscripts should use Times New Roman 12 sized font, double line spacing, one-inch or larger margins, should utilize footnotes instead of endnotes, should have numbered pages, and should be printed on one side of the page only.

TIMING

We accept manuscripts on a rolling basis. But, the best times to submit pieces are between mid-January and late February and between mid-August and late September. We do not actively consider pieces over the summer (from May until mid-August), and we do not recommend submission after mid-October because of the risk that the current Managing Board will have filled the current year’s volume by that time.
