INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS

The Virginia Law & Business Review is one of the nation's premier journals of business law scholarship. It is published twice a year by law students of the University of Virginia.

The journal selects applicants based on the results of a legal writing competition held each spring and fall. The competition consists of an editing exercise and a writing exercise to test each applicant’s knowledge of English grammar and legal citation rules and conventions.

In addition, the journal accepts an optional blind statement of interest from each applicant. Statements should be one or two pages in length, double-line spaced, and should include the applicant’s tryout number atop each page. Applicants should not provide other means of personal identification.

The statement is an opportunity to tell us about yourself; it may address your work experience, intellectual interests, significant accomplishments, obstacles overcome, personal or professional goals, educational achievements, or any way in which you believe your perspective, viewpoint, or experiences will contribute to the Virginia Law & Business Review.

Throughout the journal tryout season, we encourage applicants to reach out and talk to our student-editors through email or face-to-face. We also welcome questions from applicants sent by email to LawBusRev@virginia.edu.

In addition, we encourage you to visit our recruiting table during the spring and fall activities fairs. We also invite you to tour our offices in Slaughter Hall, room 267, during our annual open house in the spring.
